Research Fellow
Kern County Museum
Overview: The Curator will join a team of other professionals in areas such as
marketing, events, education, maintenance and business under the supervision of the
Executive Director. The responsibilities include:
• Develop and organize collections of artifacts and documents.
• Assist in organizing the research center and its digital collection.
• Conduct research on California history and expand the museum’s collection.
• Maintain artifact records and cataloging acquisitions.
• Collaborate with other local, regional and state institutions.
• Research, compile and prepare written information about collection catalogs and
have it available to the general public.
• Ensure collections are properly preserved and protected.
• Obtain grants to expand the collection, update facilities, and support research..
Qualifications: The position requires a combination of education and experience:
• Higher education course work in history, anthropology, archeology, education or
an associated discipline is required. The research fellow must be enrolled in an
upper division course of study at an accredited college or university or enrolled in
a graduate program
• Experience with museum databases preferred and other technical digital
applications including Microsoft Office, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Strong technology skills including cataloguing information, collections
management and digitization of print material.
Conditions of Employment: The beginning base salary for this position is a
$ 3,000 honorarium. It Is to be paid bi-monthly and is set up for the summer season.
