We’ve explored the history of Bakersfield High School. Now, we’ll explore the exciting history of the college that started here- Bakersfield College.
Presented by our Curator of Collections, Bethany Rice.

Ray Watson Transportation Exhibit Open to the Public

March 17th
10 am – 4 pm

 

The long-awaited Ray Watson Transportation Exhibit is officially open to the public and ready for you to visit.

Housed in a 12,000 sq. ft. hall, it showcases 40 horse-drawn carriages, stagecoaches, and wagons from Kern County’s past. The collection also has early automobiles and transportation-related artifacts.

Come take a trip back in time!

Come learn the history of Kern County through postcards! Stan Wilson’s one of a kind collection tells the story of Bakersfield and the surrounding areas in the county!

The images and stories that accompany them will blow you away as Stan explains what they are and what’s there today. Guaranteed you’ll learn something about your very own backyard!

Howell House Tour

Join us March 21st from 10 am to 12 pm for a tour INSIDE one of our most popular exhibits, The Howell House.

The Howell House was built in 1891 on the corner of 17th and H St. This was the home of William Howell, and County Auditor and successful businessman, and his family!

The Bakersfield Californian donated this house to the Kern County Museum in 1969.

This tour is given by trained docents and will be done in small groups.

Included in General Admission.

With a lifetime of research (and a few books) behind her, she will be at the Kern County Museum to show us what it’s all about!

Spring Village Flea

Village Flea is a family-friendly marketplace at the Kern County Museum and will feature amazing vendors of antiques, collectibles, vintage clothing, art, vintage home furnishings, AND local artisan goods. There will also be local musicians, yummy food, and snacks. Fun times, for all ages!
