It's easy to become a member of the Kern County Museum.  As a member you will enjoy free general admission to the museum. If you like to visit other local and national museums, you can visit many of those for free, as well. Members also receive discounts on special event tickets, discounts on gift store merchandise, and get to attend museum programming (Dance Nights, Historical Nights, Kids Saturdays, etc.) for free (unless otherwise noted). Memberships help the museum to bring fantastic programs and events to Kern County schools, citizens, and visitors. It also helps us to preserve the diverse and rich history of Kern County.

Disclaimer: Reciprocal members (i.e. CALM, Buena Vista Museum of Natural History, ASTC Passport Program) receive free admission for 2 adults (as listed on membership card) and 2 children. Reciprocal members do not receive free or reduced price admission for KCM programming and special events.

You can volunteer in many different ways!

School Tours

Teach students the history of Kern County and the West. It is our volunteers that bring Native American Life, One Room School, Frontier Life, Black Gold: The Oil Experience, and Pioneer Village to life.

Curatorial Services

Assist with the preservation of historic photographs, researching Kern County history, exhibit production, and more.

Museum Operations

Operations volunteers help with building and grounds maintenance, assist gift store staff, participate in Kern County Museum events,  and clerk various exhibits.

Costumed Interpreters

Wear period costumes as you interpret the history of the businesses, homes, and people of Kern County, giving visitors a true understanding of that life was like for past residents. Perfect for local actors or performers. No acting experience is required.

Have a flair for advertising and promotion? Our Marketing Department is continually seeks enthusiastic and creative individuals to assist with tasks ranging from graphic design, photography, videography, event flyer distribution, and more. For more information, please contact Myles Vincent at

There are many ways to donate to the Kern County Museum.  You can of course make a monetary donation by mail, in our gift shop, or by clicking the link below. You can also become a member or volunteer.  But did you know we also have a wish list of items and services that we're always looking for?  We would love the generosity of a gift of any of the items on our wish list below:

We have many children that come through Lori Brock Discovery Center and our items and exhibits become run down. The link below is a list of items needed on daily.

Interior and exterior latex paint is needed to help us keep up with our constant painting needs inside Pioneer Village.

Pens, paper, ink, and paper clips. You name it, the museum could use it.
