Offer your tour group or students a unique visit to The Kern County Museum. Self-guided and docent-led tours are available to accommodate your group needs and desired experience. 

California History Day

(School Tour Day)                    February 21, 2019  &  April 4, 2019                                           9:00am-11:30am

Step back in time to the first European explorers to visit this area and the settlers that followed them. Enjoy guided tours of some of our exhibits and educational hands on stations that focus on California history.  This tour has been specifically designed to support the 4th grade student’s learning of our state’s early history. However, the education provided on this day can cross over to other grade standards. No minimum or maximum participants required.

Frontier Life

(School Tour Day)                    October 19, 2018,  March 28, 2019,  &  May 2, 2019                  9:00am-11:30am

Join us as we learn about the chores, crafts, and fun that made up life on the frontier.  Trained docents will lead tours in some historic buildings and educational hands on stations that focus on westward expansion. This tour has been specifically designed to support the 5th grade student’s learning. However, the education provided on this day can cross over to other grade standards. No minimum or maximum participants required.

Yokuts

(Guided Tour)

Experience the Yokuts religious beliefs, customs, and how they adapted to their natural environment. The Yokuts Native American artifacts are presented in a lecture accompanied by an acorn grinding. Maximum: 100

Black Gold: The Oil Experience

(Guided Tour)

This indoor and outdoor exhibition tells the story of oil, from its formation, through its discovery and many extraction techniques, to its ultimate use throughout our lives. Enjoy a guided tour by trained docents with profound knowledge in the oil industry. Maximum: 45

Home Tours

(Guided Tour)

Tour inside three prominent historical families homes. The beautiful two story Victorian style 1891 Howell House, the early 1900’s, Lopez family and Hill family house, and country music legend Merle Haggard’s family boxcar home. Get an up close and personal tour of their history and lifestyle lead by a trained docent. Not conducted during summer. Maximum: 36

Norris School

(Guided Tour)

A costumed docent will take you on a journey back to the 1880s. An hour of “class time” in the historic Norris School provides an opportunity for your group to learn about the lessons, customs, and manners of the 1880s. Not conducted during summer. Maximum: 52

Lori Brock Discovery Center

This self-guided tour features discovery of science through hands on play. Maximum: 100

Pioneer Village

(Self-guided OR Guided Tour)

Explore 16 acres of 50 genuine and recreated structures of Kern County History. Maximum for Guided Tour: 60

Pricing

California History Day and Frontier Life  (School Tour Day)

  • 2 1/2 hours duration

  • No minimum or maximum.

  • 1 adult per 5-10 children recommended.

  • $8 per child/student (age 3-12)

  • Chaperones/teachers are free for this tour.

Guided Tours and Lori Brock Discovery Center

  • 1+ hour duration

  • Minimum of five people for a Guided Tour.

  • Minimum of twenty people and must arrive all together for Lori Brock Discovery Center.

  • $5 per child/student (age 3-12)

    • Teacher plus 2 chaperones free per class size of 25.

    • Any additional adults $10 per person.

  • $8 per student (age 13+)

    • One Teacher free per class.

    • Any additional adults $10 per person.

  • $10 per adult for adult group (not school)

Pioneer Village (Group Self-guided)

  • adult groups only

  • Minimum of twenty people and must arrive all together.

  • $8 per person
